Many of us are familiar with the Apostle’s Creed but have you ever wondered about the theological meaning behind the words? Have you ever questioned whether the words reflect your beliefs or if wondered if you are just reciting an old formula? Or perhaps you are new to the United Methodist tradition or to church in general and don’t understand the meaning of a “creed” or why we would say one at all. In February 2025, we will tackle these difficult questions and more. We will learn about the importance of the Apostle’s Creed as well as discover other creeds and consider why they matter. We will question the theological statements in the Apostle’s Creed, leaving space to deconstruct where needed and seek to understand our own beliefs more deeply. We will consider the ways these deeply held beliefs help us move through the world and shape us into the people we are today.
Our churchwide retreat will also offer us the opportunity to come together as a community and build connection with one another through study, play, meditation, singing, and sharing together. There will be activities for the whole family with a nursery as well as sessions for CityKids and youth. The cost for the retreat is $200 for individuals, $400 for couples, and $450 for families. Families in need of an extra room can reserve one for an additional $100. The payment deadline is February 1, 2025, however, you are welcome to pay in installments leading up to the retreat – no matter the amount. For questions about registration or scholarship opportunities, please email Katherine@firstchurchbhm.com. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration. Click HERE to register today.
