Transformational, especially for LGBTQ folks who have been so abused by the churches of their upbringings.

What is something people often get wrong about you?

When people hear that I’m a church musician, they usually assume I’m an organist. If you heard me play the organ, you’d know why that’s laughable. I’m a singer, choral director, and pianist, but the organ mystifies me.

Finishing the Hat and Look, I Made a Hat by Stephen Sondheim

What is the last show you binged and loved?

Predictably, The Chair with Sandra Oh as a university department chair – a little too close to home, perhaps, but hilarious and accurate.

Walking into the choral room or band room or recital hall at UAB and hearing students making music.

What is something you are deeply grateful for?

That I was able to move back to my hometown of Birmingham and be near my family after 27 years of adventures in other places.
